Winter has been creeping in on Nevermore slowly but surely. Cars have been frosting over and puddles are becoming sprite ice rinks. The Unsleeie court crawls out of their caves while the Seelie court bundles up tight in their tents. The therianthropes grow in their winter coats. Vampires stretch their gaunt arms out from under their umbrellas, enjoying the sunless skies.
But before the hipster scarves can truly be pulled out of their mothballs, the winter wonderland scene is ruined by the very weather we love so much.
A storm smashes into Nevermore, covering us in one night in ice and snow. The roads are frozen rivers and the houses are buried in at least a foot of snow on the hottest part of the day. Below freezing is average as the wind howls outside our frost-covered windows. When we wake up, everything is white. The town works away at clearing away the mess, calling a snow day at school while the fire department shovels away piles and piles of ice. Everything is all cleaned up by three in the afternoon and we can get back to our pumpkin spice lattes and cuddling by the fire. We settle in for a good night's sleep, cozy and warm under layers of blankets.
The wind howls again at the window, shriller than any werewolf could utter. Tree branches wake us from our sleep as they claw their way inside, begging for the warmth we provide. We close our eyes tight and go back to bed, spooked and shivering.
The next morning looks like yesterday. Frozen cobblestone and asphalt. Feet and feet of snow so the shorter of townsfolk have to dig their way out of their front doors. Street lamps are foggy with frost. Everyone is shivering as their breath crystallizes.
Everything is cleaned up just like the day before, though wearily so. There is another snow day called at the school, and it's still just as exciting, the kids frolicking in piles of snow. By six, it is nightfall and the streets are cleared and everyone is off to bed.
By now, the wind's screams are expected and we know what is coming in the morning. How long with this night storm last? A week? A month? What could possibly be causing this storm? We fuss over this as we roll into slumber, expecting another frozen morning...
